MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS Enters The Top Ten List Of All-Time Highest Grossing Movies

The Marvel Studios movie has now entered the top ten list of all-time highest grossing movies after yet another strong start at the box office this week. Hit the jump for the latest figures and to find out where it now sits on that list.

It happened! “THE AVENGERS” SURPASSES $1 BILLION WORLDWIDE

Marvel’s “The Avengers” earned an estimated $103.2 million in its second weekend of domestic release, helping to push the superhero blockbuster past the $1 billion mark worldwide. According to the Los Angeles Times, that second-weekend haul smashes the $75.6 million record set in 2009 by “Avatar.”

The Joss Whedon-directed film brought in another $95.4 million in 54 foreign countries, raising its global box-office score to $628.9 million. Adding in the $373.2 million gross, that brings the worldwide take to more than $1 billion after just 19 days of release. The first Marvel Studios film to hit that milestone, “The Avengers” has already surpassed the combined lifetime totals of “Iron Man” and “Thor.”
